The pearl of Southern Burgenland

Emigration- and Josef-Reichl-Museum

In the building of the old Hofmühle there are 2 important museums for Güssing: The Emigrant Museum documents the migration of the Burgenlanders to America at the beginning of this century. Güssing is also the city of the foreign Burgenlanders. From here more than 9000 Burgenlanders emigrated to America. The second part of the exhibition is dedicated to the Güssing dialect poet Josef Reichl. In his works he described the fate of the borderlanders. His love for his homeland, Hianznland, gave rise to many poems and stories. An impressive testimony is the play "Rural Exodus", which shows the living conditions in the villages, which led many people to leave their country and look for a new home in America. Opening hours: May 1 - October 31, every Saturday, Sunday and holiday from 14.00 - 18.00 hrs or by arrangement: Burgenländische Gemeinschaft, Phone: +43 3322 42598, Fax: +43 3322 42133.
