Fairy tales and legends - The Tschankerl
In the area of Güssing a servant spirit of the devil is known as "Tschankerl", an ugly little man with a big hump. Whoever dedicates his soul to him will not suffer hardship for the rest of his life. The "Tschankerl" is kept hidden in a corner of the attic by its owner, who is ashamed of his connection with him. If the goblin is discovered by unsuspecting people, he is angry, especially since people like to mock him because of his ugliness. With his disgusting falsetto voice he frightens people away. Once you know the man in the village, who houses the "Tschankerl" in his house, this man is shunned, because you know that his soul belongs to the devil.
