Castle Chapel Maria Schnee
The castle chapel Maria Schnee is located below the ancestral hall on the
Castle ruin,
whose construction dates back to the 15th century. The castle chapel is accessible from the court.
It has a ribbed vault and a late Romanesque portal frame on the west wall.
Its original interior has not been preserved.
The present neo-Gothic interior was created around 1794.
The side altar dates from 1662.
Until about 1900, a tower was located next to the chapel and the "Knights' Hall" was reached via a spiral staircase.
The original access to the stronghold was via a drawbridge through a gate, which is now bricked up.
The newly renovated castle chapel was consecrated by the diocesan bishop DDr. Laszlo on 28.6.1969 after a field mass in the castle courtyard.
The consecration was attended by the owner of the castle, Prince Ladislaus Batthyány and his wife,
numerous prominent personalities of the public life - at their head the Federal Minister for the Interior Franz Soronics - as well as many inhabitants of
as well as many residents of Güssing and the surrounding area (paragraph BG 1969/9, page 9).
Since the year 2006/2007 the Franciscans in Güssing have allowed Catholic weddings to be celebrated here.
