The pearl of Southern Burgenland

Josef Reichl - Birthplace

"In this house the Burgenland regional poet Josef Reichl was born on June 19, 1860" is written on the commemorative plaque at the birthplace of the nestor of poetry in Burgenland. The son of poor "Bireschleute" learned the hatter's trade. He settled down in Vienna-Fünfhaus. One of the driving forces behind his work was certainly the openly admitted homesickness, the memories of his youth and his attachment to his homeland. In poems and stories with the creative means of the local dialect he sings of his southern Burgenland homeland. Josef Reichl died on 9 December 1924 and his grave is in the Vienna Central Cemetery.
